The Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts is an enormous, historical festival held in June on farmland in Pilton, Somerset, England. It dates to 1970, when it was held in September and was attended by 1500 people before moving to the time around the Summer Solstice the following year and being renamed Glastonbury Fayre. It then disappeared until 1979 and didn't become a regular occurrence until 1981. The festival has taken place most years since, excepting "fallow" years that are mostly at 5 year intervals. It now draws over 200,0000 attendees and boasts over 400 musical acts alone, performing over 5 days. Glastonbury has been a Pop music festival from the beginning, advertising "Pop, Folk & Blues" in its first iteration. Today, it covers all popular genres with enormous diversity and including top stars, contemporary and legendary alike. In addition to music, there are dance, comedy, theater, circus and cabaret acts as well as art installations.
