Sleaford Mods
Outline
Sleaford Mods are a duo from Nottingham (UK) that mixes punk, post-punk, and rap into a fairly unique and potent concoction, serving a rich platter of working class frustrations and anger directed at right wing politics, hypocrisy, racism, you name it. Vocals and the lyrics are handled by Jason Williamson, whose delivery is somewhere between speak singing and rapping, but not quite either. It is more like ranting with rhythm with a hint of melody and a whole lot of punk attitude. Meanwhile, the music is written and constructed by Andrew Fearn, whose grooves are fully fleshed out songs with inventive beats and melodic riffs, as opposed to just loops that fill the background. The two present quite a picture on stage too: Williamson walking up and down the stage, shooting his fiery lyrics in a rapid fire, while Fearns standing by his laptop, bopping his head and drinking his beer. It's quite a sight.
