The Streets

The Streets is Mike Skinner, a hip-hop artist who was particularly influential in the UK music scene in the early '00s with an idiosyncratic sound that draws from jungle, reggae, dub, and club music. He has created a versatile body of work over the years as a songwriter with his stylistic range and the way he matches his melodic hooks with street poetry that is stacked with sharp observations. His vocal delivery is a mixture of some plain rapping and speak-singing, which at times, takes a bit of spoken word flair. He went on a hiatus with 2011's Computers and Blues, but then came back in 2020 with None of Us Are Getting Out Of This Life Alive, which was filled with collaborations top to bottom, including inspired pairings with artists like IDLES and Tame Impala.
