Blood Red Shoes is the guitar/drum duo Laura-Mary Carter and Steven Ansell, respectively, who started out as a noise rock band with garage undertones but then gradually began to incorporate more synths into their sound. They are currently a band that produces indie rock with polished, pop-conscious tones while still holding on at least a little to their rough, punk-curious roots. They have also been swinging towards electronic oriented dance grooves with some frequency in their recent work, as was the case in 2019's Get Tragic, for instance. Carter and Ansell differ in their tendencies as songwriters, where Carter tends to be more subtle and melodic, Ansell shoots for electronic textures and a harsher sound, which makes their partnership a complementary one. Carter has a sharp attack on the guitar and often plays in a scorching fuzz while Ansell has a powerful hard hitting style. The two leads also share the vocals as well.
