Bloc Party is an indie rock band that combines '90s alt rock tones with post-punk angularity and electronic dance elements, though the latter tends to surface intermittently and somewhat sparingly. The band's early success came from their ability to put together a string of well-written and edgy songs that were also quite earnest. After the initial batch of three albums, the band ended up going through a series of gaps and personnel changes, each time coming back with adjustments to their edginess: harder riffs and a rougher rock sound in 2012's Four, a more spiritually-inclined, relaxed and peaceful state of mind in 2016's Hymns, and based on early releases, apparently a return to a more angsty and angular Bloc Party in 2022's Alpha Games. Throughout these shifts, the main dynamo of their music continues to be the interaction between founding members Kele Okereke on vocals and Russell Lissack on the lead guitar.
