Fontaines D.C. is a band originally from Dublin that is among the batch of post-punk revival bands that have been coming out of the UK and Ireland in the late '10s (Idles, Shame, The Murder Capital, among others). The foundation of their music is the steady drum beats combined with pulsating bass lines, and guitars dispensing hooks and accents along the way, as is the case for most bands in the genre. Vocalist Grian Chatten has been shifting from the traditional speak sing mode to a more lyrical singing mode over time, though his words still come from the pub poetry tradition. Likewise, the band has been moving from the dark and intense sound of their early recordings as a whole and into a more elegiac and sentimental style while retaining their tight instrumentation. They are an especially high octane band in live performances.
