The Murder Capital is a five piece post-punk band from Dublin that emerged as part of the wave of bands coming out of Ireland following Gilla Band's success. They started out with an overall tone that was fairly close to Protomartyr in how dark it was, with plenty of angst also thrown in. The interplay between the instruments was also staying close to the line drawn by early goth school of post-punk laid out by bands like Joy Division and Bauhaus, with the riff set by the drums and bass and the guitars providing short hooks and accents. This somewhat changed in their second album, Gigi's Recovery (2023) where the band took a step back from the ledge so to speak, seeking a more expansive sound and a lighter, more melodic touch rather than continuing to be engulfed in gloom.
