bar italia (stylized in lower case) is an indie rock trio whose music is an amalgamation of a handful of styles poured into a dreamy indie rock mold. Post-punk is in that mixture for sure, and so is shoegaze, especially early on, and a mixture of psychedelic meets lo-fi underground sound. The band embraces a jagged and perhaps a bit untidy stylistic approach, especially with vocals that have a loose and almost slapdash edge, which adds more to their scrappy feel. There is an undeniable melodic core to their songs as well, and it comes with a touch of melancholy that somehow manages not to draw too much attention to itself. Their early releases Quarrel (2020) and bedhead (2021) were a series of quick songs that played like hallucinatory samples where the post-punk component was more overt.
