Mannequin Pussy

Mannequin Pussy is an indie rock band whose music falls in a range between straight-up raging punk on the one hand and indie pop with a melodic core but hard edges of on the other. They also adopt elements of shoegaze and emo along the way. The songs on their earlier albums were mostly punk driven bursts of raw energy, each clocking at 90 second on average. They began to incorporate pop-conscious melodic hooks into their frantic attack in recent years. The band is led by guitarist and singer Marisa Dabice, who has a powerful presence. She is loud and relentless when they are in their punk mode, and completely tones it down and sounds wistful on the more contemplative pieces. Their drummer, Kaleen Reading, is rock-steady and solid in the rhythm section.
