The Coachella Festival is one of the longest running modern mega festivals in the US, its origin going back to 1999. It is held at the Empire Polo Club grounds located in Indio in the Coachella Valley in California, near Palm Springs. The festival focuses mostly in indie and alternative rock, with some alt country, hip-hop, occasional jazz thrown in. Having become one of the top festivals in the country, it attracts a lot of big names, which means its headliners are usually stadium-level megastars, which in turn means, a relatively lesser known act that is included in one of the stages can consider it a career-defining break. It is organized by Goldenvoice, which also organizes the country music festival Stagecoach, held in the same location.

The festival takes place over two three-day weekends, Friday to Sunday. This year the first weekend is 4/12 through 4/14, and the second weekend is 4/19 through 4/21. The lineup and schedule is pretty much identical between the two weekends. Camping packages are available.
Both weekends are already sold out as of today (7 December 2023) but there is a waitlist for cancellations/exchanges.
