FKA twigs is the stage name adopted by singer/songwriter Tahliah Barnett, a Gloucester native who is now based in London. She taps into an emotionally rich well of musical idioms she has at her command and forges a distinct and idiosyncratic style that makes use of classical music passages, ambient sounds, trap beats, trip-hop grooves, and a morphed form of alternative R&B melodies. Her music tends to be on the slowed down, contemplative side that displays quality craftsmanship as she pieces her songs together, giving them the time they need for the parts to come together. The end result is mesmerizing. She is a classically trained singer with a remarkable vocal range that she uses very effectively. Her delivery brings to mind a young Kate Bush, a comparison that's been noted by many critics with respect to her talent in composition, her creativity, and the musical ideas she pursues.
