Dijon Duenas is a singer-songwriter whose music is generally grounded in a type of alternative R&B that sits next to folk inspired bedroom pop. After a couple of EPs in that vein, he took a turn towards a more experimental approach for his debut album in 2021, Absolutely. He maintains his smooth lo-fi R&B tunes and traditional crooning, which he is quite good at to be sure, but he also started to gravitate towards scratchy songs with broken melodies, strong beats, and jagged guitars. His usually smooth and gentle vocal delivery expanded to also access a type of quiver worthy of Kyle Morton (of Typhoon) that he occasionally stretches into an anguished wail. The combination of the smooth and the rough gives his music an added dimension and breadth.
