Update: Organizers announced in May that Sacred Rose would not return in 2023 while leaving open the possiblity of a return. However, the website and social media accounts have since disappeared.
The Sacred Rose music festival makes its debut in 2022, August 26-28, on the grounds of SeatGeek stadium in Bridgeview, IL, just outside of Chicago. Both branding and lineup indicate an association with the Grateful Dead and their considerable fan base, the former including '60s psychedelia-inspired graphics and the latter including Phil Lesh (performing with a lot of familiar names) and a Dead cover band. The rest of the lineup is impressive and, let's be honest, seems to be designed to appeal to those who enjoy the effects of cannabis, which is now conveniently legal in Illinois. However, we're not talking just jam bands, though they are well represented. On the contrary, the lineup is quite eclectic, including Americana, Bluegrass, World Music, Modern Jazz, Funk and Psychedelic Electronica.
