City and Colour

City and Colour is the name singer-songwriter and guitarist Dallas Green uses in his solo work (a reference to his first and last name) which differs quite a bit from the emo and post-hardcore that his band Alexisonfire is known for. His music is far more personal and focuses on a more mainstream cross between indie folk and indie rock. He started out in an acoustic and folk-tinged style with blues influences, and acquired harder edges over time. He sings in a distinctively high voice, with his gentle and swelling vocals often sitting at the front and center of his music, holding on to a calm core that at times contrasts with his hard rocking instrumentation on his uptempo numbers. His songwriting is especially crisp in his ballads.
