Gnod

Gnod is a musical collective from the Manchester area in the UK, led by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Paddy Shine, with a rotating roster of musicians that include Chris Haslam on bass, guitar, and keyboards. They play drone-based music with dark repetitive patterns and harsh tones set against a big sound, not unlike Swans. Their work draws from a variety of sources stylistically, especially krautrock, psychedelic, and post-rock. How exactly these pieces are put together, how tight or sparse they sound, and how aggressive the production gets often changes from album to album. Their earlier work was dominated by long, sprawling atmospheric pieces that could get fairly hypnotic. That approach has been the band's defining characteristic across their fascinating catalog.
