Snapped Ankles
Outline
Snapped Ankles are a post-punk band with synth driven dance grooves, speak-sing vocals, semi-political humorous lyrics, and a whole performance art angle in which the members are dressed in ghillie suits, looking like shaggy tree people, claiming to be shamans living in some forest while keeping their identities a secret. All that aside, their musical style derives heavily from the repetitious pulsating grooves of krautrock (see Can, Neu) paired with some nice, primal beats that often tend to be polyrhythmic, with the addition of some psychedelic tones of late. They are also inspired by the work of electronically inclined bands like Kraftwerk and Devo, though their use of analog synthesizers and acoustic percussion gives them a warmer and more organic texture. There are also some late period The Fall influences on their work, especially in the styling (though not exactly the delivery) of their vocalist PJ Austin.
Meatraffle, Fat White Family, Liars, late period Fall,
If Mark E Smith had merged his band with the Wall of Voodoo.
