BEAK> is a band comprising a trio of musicians who have been working as members of other bands or solo artists, which makes this perhaps a sideband of a kind. They were a decidedly more of an experimental outfit whose music went back and forth between gloomy drones and Neu or Faust like fast driving grooves with very little vocals. Starting with 2016, when there was a personnel change and Will Young joined the band on keyboards, their sonic palette expanded significantly, leading to what it is today, a smart amalgamation of post-rock, electronic, and krautrock that is no longer at the hard edges of experimentalism but follows the basic outlines of pop music more closely, including hummable melodies and vocals that involve genuine singing. Even though one of the members, Geoff Barrow has also been a part of the band Portishead, there was never much of trip-hop in their music.
