Cavern of Anti-Matter
Outline
Cavern of Anti-Matter is an offshoot of Stereolab, a highly successful and influential band from the '90s and '00s that was known for its idiosyncratic version of electronic and art pop. Guitarist Tim Gane was one of the major figures in the band. Drummer Joe Dilworth played with them in the '90s. These old bandmates are joined by synth player Holger Zapff, and the result is music that is built on some variation of electronica meets krautrock format. It plays out as a series of instrumental drones that are meticulous in their rhythmic structures, are loaded to the brim with rich melodic layers and as hypnotic as any piece of music has a right to be. There is no sense of aloofness in their work. The music is precise, atmospheric, and fully engaged and often uptempo with a strong motorik beat that might suggest that their entire catalog may be a love letter to classic bands like Neu and Faust.
Tim Gane was a member of Sterolab.
Tim Dilworth played with Stereolab, Spiritualized, and Faith Healers.
