Spiritualized is a band created and led by J. Spaceman of the '80s and '90s psychedelic band Spacemen 3, which in turn is the moniker used by singer-guitarist-songwriter Jason Pierce. He has a distinct style that combines a touch of swirly psychedelic, lots of reverb with lo-fi esthetics and a tendency to build the songs for big, swelling orchestral sections including horns, strings, vocal choruses, and so forth. He also frequently turns to soul and gospel sounds as well as electric blues sound on his guitar. His songs do not always have an obvious trajectory as he is prone to slowly mutate their texture and emotional tenor as they progress. Pierce is especially renowned as a songwriter and a lot of it comes from how expansive and layered his music can get. His hooks are often not instantly obvious, but they become more apparent after repeat listens.
