Kara Delik

Kara Delik (= "black hole" in Turkish) is a trio that combines electronic, krautrock, and post-punk textures with Anatolian rock (see Erkin Koray, Barış Manço, Altın Gün) to construct a vibrant sound that can be both mesmerizing and perplexing at the same time. The band is composed of saz player Barış Öner, who provides the Turkish component and half of the vocal duties; bassist Andi Sommer, whose propulsive style gives them an array of deep grooves with a powerful punch; and drummer Eilis Frawley, who not only acts as the anchor that ties all the parts together, working through the band's love for odd time signatures, but also adds a fun angle to the music with her speak-singing. The result is a fascinating melange of styles that may appear to be an odd match on paper, but works like a charm in real life.
