Sharkmuffin
Outline
Sharkmuffin was a Brooklyn-based garage rock trio with Tara Thiessen and Natalie Kirch on guitars and bass, plus a semi-revolving door of drummers including the great Patty Schemel (of Hole) at one point. They could get fairly noisy and explosive, but there was often a strong melodic thread that holds their bursts together. Their recordings were mostly rough and lo-fi, and that energy nicely carried over to stage. The grunge elements were there in the guitar riffs and some of the vocal passages, but the main force driving the band was the garage sound mixed with some retro rock tones. They were a relatively short-lived band but they produced great head bopping music with an all out party attitude.
