Altın Gün is an Amsterdam based band that plays a hybrid form of music known as Anatolian Rock, which merges Turkish folk traditions with western rock. Its popularity peaked in the '70s in Turkey through the work of artists like Erkin Koray and Barış Manço. Altın Gün takes their legacy as a starting point and delivers mostly folk songs, some of them anonymous, with joyful reverence for the old-school wah-wah sound, as they seriously crank up the funk and add some synth pop elements into the mix. The result is hip-moving middle eastern funk with a psychedelic call out. The band was founded by bass player Jasper Verhulst, who appears to have lucked out with vocalists Merve Daşdemir, whose earthy voice and delivery hits the right tone and Erdinç Ecevit, who in addition to his sweet voice also turns out to be quite a bağlama player.
