Daniel Casimir is a bass player (double bass, to be more exact) who has been an active figure in London's current jazz scene, having regularly played with a number of major musicians along the way, such as Nubya Garcia, Camila George, and Moses Boyd. In some way, he has been the backbone for quite a bit of the music coming from that corner of the world in recent years. He can be a traditionalist as a composer, and as an arranger, he tends to create a big orchestral feel with a handful of players. Unlike some of his more well-known co-horts, his music tends to be oriented more towards hard bop than fusion or Afrobeat, although there is still a strong Caribbean thread that runs through his work. He references Charles Mingus quite regularly, as he did, for instance in his 2019 collaboration with singer Tess Hirst in These Days.
