Sarah Tandy is a pianist, composer, and bandleader who came to jazz from a classical background and quickly became one of the prominent artists in London's jazz scene, working with a number of other artists on their projects as well as her solo work. Stylistically she is more in line with the post-bop world of particularly mid 20th century jazz. Her music is well-grounded and draws inspiraion from some of the classic names of the genre: there are bits of McCoy Tyner in her playing, some Oscar Peterson, and especially on the Fender Rhodes, quite a bit of Herbie Hancock. She has a meticulous and exact style that is economical and expressive. Her 2019 album, Infection in the Sentence also showcases her strengths as a composer.
