Momma is an indie rock band originally from the Los Angeles area but now based in Brooklyn that plays music that has not-so-subtle references the '90s alt rock sound. The band is led by the duo of singer-guitarists Etta Friedman and Allegra Weingarten, who clearly have an affinity for the music of the period, especially the bands that operated at the edges of grunge back in the day, see The Breeders, Liz Phair, and to some extent, Spoon. They write solid hooks and catchy melodies that do not sound dated. Despite their use of the '90s idioms, Momma is not exactly a throwback band. Having the two leads sing in unison regularly adds an interesting dream pop type effect on their music.
