Spoon is one of those bands that have managed to remain consistent both in style and in the quality of the work they've produced over the years. They are an Austin-based band founded by singer/guitarist Britt Daniel and drummer Jim Eno. In a career that stretches back to the mid to late 90s, they have stuck with what they do best: mid tempo indie rock pieces with immediately accessible melodies and straightforward, no frills beats. Thankfully they have not been tempted to do any power ballads or get into genre-crossing experimentation. They have a knack for building a song with basic ingredients, identifying the hook and what makes the song work, and perfecting it. Daniel's voice can be a little coarse in a lo-fi way, which provides a nice counter-point to their generally clean and efficient production.
