Parquet Courts
Outline
Parquet Courts are a band based in Brooklyn that has been producing music with an early post-punk vibe: their songs sound raw and have that punk energy, but they are also controlled and have richer texture. They recorded a series of strong albums with that formula in the early '10s until they kicked to another level in 2016's Human Performance, where their songwriting became much clearer and more varied. The band has two vocalists, Andrew Savage and Austin Brown (both also on guitars) who have distinct styles that complement one another. They often trade songs where Savage tends to stick to the rougher, punkier side while Brown's songs are typically more on the melodic indie rock side. Their 2021 album Sympathy for Life catches them in their most pop-friendly and buoyant mode, sometimes jamming with a vague hint of Can, other times grooving in the spirit of the '70s soul, so on. This is clearly a band that continues to change and evolve.

They were also known as Parkay Quarts in the beginning.
They worked with the Italian composer Daniele Luppi on Milano. Karen O also appeared on the album as the singer on some of the songs.
