Ólafur Arnalds
Outline
Ólafur Arnalds is a Rejkjavik based composer, keyboardist (and a one time heavy metal drummer) whose work gently roams between ambient, electronic, and neoclassical music and does so while in ruminative tones. His style is often described as cinematic, and truth be told, it does evoke images of severely Nordic images with its calmness and openness. So it should bot be surprising that he has also written the score for TV and movies. His style is minimalistic, melancholic, and very sedate. It is also transportive as all good ambient and/or neoclassical work tends to be. His melodies are lovely and captivating, His presentation is utterly serene whether he is on the piano or some electronic instrument. In 2018's re:member, he experimented with Stratus software that connected his piano to two others that responded to his playing algorithmically.
