Nils Frahm is a pianist, keyboardist, and composer who is one of the prominent names in the contemporary neo-classical music world. His music has a strong romantic flavor to it especially with his piano driven pieces where his playing is particularly delicate, intimate, and ambient. Another pianist who works in the same genre, Lambert, would be a good point of reference to Frahm's style. His electronic pieces, on the other hand, tend to be more perky and rhythmic. A lot of his music is created through improvisations, particularly in his live performances. He also has a playful side: In 2011's Felt, he placed felt pieces on the strings of his piano while playing very softly, reportedly so as not to disturb his neighbors, which allowed him to capture subtle vibrations on his instrument. The following year, he composed music for 9 fingers for his album Screws after he ended up breaking his thumb.
