Chartreuse is a four-piece band that plays a somber form of electronic folk mixed with ambient pop that arguably sits somewhere between Bon Iver and Zola Blood. Their songs often have a folk-oriented core, quite strongly in the urban folk tradition at times, with a tightly laid out electronic pop layer surrounding it. Their earlier string of EPs also incorporated elements of jazz and ambient music, all of which were eventually distilled into the expansive, wide screen cinematic sound that arrived on their debut album, Morning Ritual (2023). Vocals are typically tag-teamed by the two silky voiced leads, keyboardist/guitarist Mike Wagstaff and keyboardist Hattie Wilson, whose harmonies add extra depths to the misty textures the band creates instrumentally.
