Babehoven

Babehoven is a folk-oriented project that started out as the solo work of singer-songwriter Maya Bon, but grew over time into her collaboration with guitarist Ryan Albert. They play low to mid-tempo songs with subtle melodies and an introspective tone that builds into alternating streaks of melancholy and romanticism. Their music is soft and gentle, their songwriting is lyrical and their sound, quite organic. They make use of a basic set-up from an instrumental point of view, typically building on an acoustic texture with no-frills delivery. The arrangements give Bon a good chunk of space to roam, and she fills it with her airy, serene vocals. It is not hard to see the source of the Mazzy Star comparisons they keep getting.
