I See Rivers is a Norwegian trio of singers, currently based in Wales, that primarily play folk music, albeit at a relatively slowed down, deliberate pace. They typically keep it acoustic and occasionally make use of big percussive instruments to create a deep thumping pulse. They had a more overt pop streak on their first couple of EPs, but even then they were clearly folk-centered. Where they stand out significantly among the sea of other folk bands out there has to be their impeccable vocal harmonies. Each member is a strong singer in her own right, but their total is greater than the sum of its parts. Their songs are warm and heartfelt, driven by somewhat delicate and gentle melodies, which, when combined with the way they can harmonize effortlessly in a relaxed, dreamy state, suggests some new age tendencies in their music as well.
