Porridge Radio
Outline
Porridge Radio was an indie rock band with a vague post-punk touch led by singer, songwriter, guitarist Dana Margolin, whose emotional songs come with a darker spirit that stands somewhere between angst and desperation. As a songwriter, she has a tendency to lean towards big and dramatic gestures both compositionally and lyrically, and the band provided the big and brash sound that supported it, adding more swagger to it. Her vocals bear a lot of weight, and when she hits her peak, her songs turn into a battlefield of emotions. Her deeply pained wail and occasional spasmic delivery may sometimes come across with shades of Amanda Palmer (in her Dresden Dolls days) in the way that both artists embrace a level of staccato anxiety that can be gripping from the get go.
Every generation shall have their Robert Smith.
