Binker Golding
Outline
Binker Golding is a London-based saxophonist who is one of the major figures that emerged from the city's current jazz scene in the early days, particularly through his work with drummer Moses Boyd. He is a versatile performer who has played in a variety of styles ranging from free jazz to hard bop to pop fusion and smooth jazz. His solo work falls more on the traditionalist side and seems to draw inspiration from various styles established between the '60s and the '80s, often circling around the Michael Brecker sound to some extent. Except, Golding plays it looser. There is a significant body of work he has built that revolves around fully improvised free jazz performances, going back to his Moses and Binker days. He has extended that line of work in recent years, including his 2019 collaboration with pianist Elliot Galvin.
