Sinead O'Brien is an Irish poet and indie rock artist originally from Limerick, but currently based in London. She actually works in partnership with guitarist Julian Hanson and drummer Oscar Robertson, who have the bigger hand in the instrumentation of her songs while O'Brien is more focused on the lyrics. Her songs tend to tack closer to a general indie rock type musically, with some post-punk, glam, and dub elements in there as well. Her vocal delivery on the other hand, seems to float between speak-singing, which is a common trend among the new generation of post-punk artists, and spoken word poetry reading. Her earlier work was more of the latter, but lately, she has been inclining towards the former, relatively speaking. That said, Hanson and Robertson load the songs with strong beats and nice, memorable hooks. Plus, they add interesting instrumental work in the background while O'Brien continues to provide her straightforwardly semi-spoken vocals.
