Film School

Film School is a band that has been around since 2001, gone through a hiatus, regrouped and picked it up where they had left off. The band has gone through minor stylistic mutations over the years, but they have generally stuck to their shoegaze roots, perhaps drifting towards some dream pop and electronic beats in their more recent work. They also seem to be inspired by a strand of post-punk that draws from the same stream that also shaped The Cure back in the day. Their music is not at all aggressive; it is gentle, even, at least for the most part. They seem to be less reliant on melodic hooks than the mood and tone they are creating. The songs are generally around the mid-tempo range and tend to have a somewhat hazy sound which gives them a slight psychedelic edge, but in a relatively subtle way.
