Temples started out as part of the psychedelic revival in the '10s along with Tame Impala and others. They captured the essence of the late '60s swirly, trippy sound on their debut album, 2014's Sun Structures, as if it had been preserved in amber all those decades, as they channelled the spirit of bands like T-Rex and to some extent, The Beatles. They then developed a bigger and bolder sound that turned on more pronounced instrumental passages, going through the same trajectory followed by the genre the first time around. The band pulled back a little on Exotico in 2023 and injected heavy doses of pop into their work. Psychedelia continues to be a factor in their music, at least in the way they branched into Altın Gün style funky Anatolian rock on some of the tracks.
