Duquette Johnston is a singer-songwriter based in Birmingham, Alabama, who started out as a member of the band Verbena in the '90s but then moved on to his solo work in the early '00s. His music is pretty much straight up guitar driven indie rock that occasionally ventures into folk rock territory. His earliest records were more folk oriented, comprised mostly of ballads led by an acoustic guitar. His later work still includes some of that, but is built more on the kind of sober and introspective mid tempo songs that have both feet firmly planted on the old terra firma. His gravely voice gives off the vibes of someone who has been there and back with a subtle shade of melancholy that occasionally surfaces in his songs.
