Sasami (Ashworth) started out as a session musician in the LA music circles, then became a member of Cherry Glazerr for a while, and then turned solo. Her earlier work was very much in line with dream pop and shoegaze styles, singing in a serene, hushed voice. The big space she created with her arrangements throughout her self-titled debut album is still evident in her current work with her ballads, where her lovely voice is set at the center, singing with more confidence than before, as the orchestration swells around her. On the other hand, her more recent work has brought out a louder and more aggressive side, heading into straight hard rock territory with all the pounding drums, bass riffs, and fuzzed up guitars, all held in check by her usual, St. Vincent-ish measured delivery.
