Richard Spaven

Richard Spaven is a London-based jazz drummer whose music incorporates elements of electronic and club music. The melodic lines on his vocal pieces are generally close to soul and R&B, but his instrumental pieces have strong dance floor vibes without actually being dance oriented as much. A good portion of this comes from his playing style which is heavily influenced by the '90s drum 'n' bass scene and classic hip-hop, as well as the syncopated breaks of broken beat. He is widely regarded as a top-notch drummer with a distinct sound. Drums do take the center spot in his recordings, naturally, but he does not indulge himself with solos or going on a speed drumming bender. His solo work mostly showcases his DnB grooves and syncopated breaks.
