Alfa Mist is a jazz keyboard player whose music incorporates a broad array of styles, R&B, hip-hop, and classical most prominently. His music usually falls on the melancholic side, often playing out like low tempo ruminations as he gently tickles the keys on his classic Rhodes electric piano against some smooth fusion sound. It is not that hard to see the vague ghost of a mid-career Miles Davis peeking through his music. His hop-hop influenced pieces also have a laid-back late night chill vibe, all of which are on brand since his playing style tends to be distinctly mellow and delicate. As an artist, he seems concerned less about wowing his audience with melodic and technical skills and more about connecting with them at an emotional level. To that end, he brings in an impressive array of vocalist on his albums, including Jordan Rakei and the gem that is his bassist Kaya Thomas-Dyke, who invariably kills it every time she adds her vocals.
