Robohands is the moniker for London-based multi-instrumentalist Andy Baxter, who creates mostly relaxed and chilled music where he combines jazz with a nice mixture of ambient tones and hip-hop beats. His work comes close to smooth jazz in some ways, but never quite crosses over mostly because of his tendency to add jagged edges to his music, rhythmically and tonally. He states that he started constructing tracks originally in order to produce melodies to plays his drums to, and that pretty much captures the basic dynamics of his work, especially the way he retains the jamming feel while also keeping a very cerebral and structured style. The emphasis is on the grooves and his drums usually take the middle of the center stage, understandably. He also plays the keyboards, guitars, bass, flute and some sax on his albums with a good spacing between the instruments.
