Ishmael Ensemble

Ishmael Ensemble is an electronic jazz fusion band based in Bristol, UK, led by saxophonist and producer Pete Cunningham, who has been working as a DJ that mixes electronic dance music and jazz under the Ishmael moniker. His ensemble explores the same type of genre melding but approaches it from the jazz perspective. Bristol's musical traditions are palpable in their work, especially the city's trip-hop heritage, which pretty much inhabits the band's whole catalog. There is also a psychedelic undercurrent to their songs that comes from the combination of their downbeat style and strong club vibes. Their overall sound is simultaneously hypnotic and vibrant, further enhanced by their house and techno features.
