Waldo's Gift
Outline
Waldo's Gift is a Bristol based fusion trio that plays jazz using a lot of rock idioms, and pursue that approach in a relatively aggressive manner. There are some obvious '70s and '80s influences that lie right below the surface and the band successfully merges them into a distinct sound. They also draw quite a bit from electronic music, but that remains mostly as additional relish on top of their fusion work. Their performances are often improvisational sessions, though they have structured compositions as well. Either way, their music has a lot of warmth and spontaneity that can be disarming and transportive. Individual band members are all exceptionally good on their instruments and play with excellent chemistry.
Irreversible Entanglements, Harriet Tubman, Jeff Parker, Miles Davis' work with Marcus Miller and Al Foster in the '80.
