Petrol Girls is al all out, balls to wall, pouring gasoline on fire then singing about it type of punk band that is pretty ticked off with the world on a number of fronts, to say the least, a lot of which revolve around women's rights issues. They were formed in London but are currently working out of Graz, Austria. Their punk goes beyond being an esthetic choice. It is fueled by their anger, which is reflected in their music: the rhythm section pounds down the beats, the guitars create a swirl of dissonance and noise, while vocalist and leader Ren Aldridge is a fireball of shout-singing passion. Underneath all that rough sound, the band actually writes solid songs with a clear melodic flow with very effective instrumentation that sounds pretty well thought out.
