Nick Hakim is a New York based singer songwriter who combines an overall R&B feel with psychedelic folk and to some extent, the sonic textures of bedroom recording. His songs tend to be woozy, dream-like affairs with a preference for muted arrangements and a persistent reverb, which evokes both a sense of small intimate settings and cavernous spaces often at the same time. His songs are mostly in the mid to low tempo range and generally calm and sometimes a little moody. He has an expressive voice that likes to work at the high range, but he also has a smoky lower register he taps into occasionally. His 2021 album Small Things was a collaboration with saxophonist Roy Nathanson where the hints of jazz that lay under the surface in his earlier work was given room to come out.
