Ego Ella May

Ego Ella May is a singer/songwriter who, at her core, is a hybrid jazz/R&B musician who deftly interlaces the two styles into a soft and fluid texture that is not too far off of Sade's signature style in the '80s. There is a similar sense of sparseness and directness to her songs, which tend to be mid-tempo, calm ballads with unhurried, subtle melodies arranged in a restrained jazzy spirit that also opens up a lot of breathing space. She sings in hushed tones and with a laid-back delivery in her gentle voice. Her music is practically dipped in romantic yearning at times, and comes across as simultaneously cool and steamy. Her recent Fieldnotes EP series tend to lean more towards a soft neo soul feel, while her earlier work was more jazz centric to some extent.
