Naked Roommate

Naked Roommate is an Oakland, California based band that takes on a particular flavor of the classic, synth-centric, dance-oriented new wave sound built on top of the steady beats of a drum machine. They started out as the side project of singer Amber Sermeńo and keyboardist Andy Jordan back in 2020, while they were bandmates at The World, pursuing a similar sound. When that group dissolved, Naked Roommate became their primary outlet. They went on to add a pair of saxophones to their line-up on their second album, 2024's Pass the Loofah, which duplicated a key component of The World's set-up. The two bands have a very similar overall sound and feel, both focused on a quirky, angular, funky, sound that mixes playful vocals with speak-singing in a way should be familiar from like-minded bands such as Bodega, Shopping, and French Vanilla.
