Bodega is a Brooklyn-based band with quirky post-punk tendencies whose music seems to have distilled some of the most prominent features of the early '80s post-punk/new wave era. They are also driven by a healthy dose of irreverent and irrepressible sense of fun. The vocals are mostly in the speak-sing style shared between vocalists Nikki Belfiglio and Ben Hozie, sometimes reminiscent of the B-52s. There is a strong dance floor flavor to their music. Their arrangements are crisp and well-defined: the guitars jangle somewhere between Gang of Four and Talking Heads, the bass and drums provide a steady funk. Their lyrics are snippy and sarcastic, delivered with a wink and the songs are filled with catchy and instantly accessible melodies.
