Laveda

Laveda is a band born in Albany, NY, now operating out of Brooklyn, NY, fronted by guitarists Ali Genevich and Jacob Brooks, and fully committed to a hybrid sound that brings a shoegaze edge to indie rock.  Their earlier work frequently had a dreamy veneer, and a slightly melancholic tone that wraps around the melodic core of their songs. The band took a leap on their 2025 album Love, Darla, where they put the dreaminess away and went back to the grunge tinted textures of '90s alt-rock, with sharp lines and a gruff feel that convincingly slides in and out of the Sonic Youth terrain, while not completely rejecting their shoegaze tones. With songs that are well-written and effectively delivered, the band is able to make this combination work for them.
